Golden syrup flapjacks made with just a handful of pantry staples. You can bake these in the oven in just 20 minutes, the perfect quick treat for breakfast, school lunchboxes or cosy afternoon tea.

This easy foolproof recipe delivers rich buttery flavour, warm cinnamon notes and a satisfying soft and chewy oat texture in every bite.

 ¾ cup unsalted butter
  cup golden syrup
  cup soft dark brown sugar
 ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
 3 cups porridge oats
 large pinch of salt
 1 tbsp flaxseed
 4 tbsp raisins
1

8x8 inch tin, 180C for 20-25 minutes

1. Preheat the oven to 180C(350F). Line a 8 inch/20 cm square baking tin with parchment paper. 

2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add in the syrup and sugar and cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes whilst stirring, until the sugar has dissolved. 

3. In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients: the oats, flaxseeds, salt and cinnamon. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well together. Fold in the raisins and then spoon the. mixture into the lined baking tin. Press the mixture down firmly using the back of a spoon or spatula.

4. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden around the edges. For chewier bars bake closer to 20 minutes and for crispier close to 25 minutes.

5. Once ready remove the tin from the oven and allow to cool completely before slicing into squares or cars. You can store these in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
