Baked Apples

Juicy oven baked apples with cinnamon, raisins and crushed walnuts, all baked together in a butter and maple syrup sauce until warm and caramelised. This easy healthy dessert leaves your home smelling amazing, best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some crème fraîche.

 4 large apples
 3 tbsp maple syrup
 1 tbsp dark brown sugar
 1 tsp cinnamon
 3 tbsp walnuts, chopped
 3 tbsp raisins
 1 tbsp unsalted butter
 ¾ cup boiling water

1. Preheat the oven to 180C. Use a small spoon to carve out a hole in each apple removing the core and seeds and leaving about an inch from the bottom.

2. In a small bowl combine he maple syrup, brown sugar and cinnamon, then add in the raisins and crushed walnuts. Pour the filling into each apple and divide the butter evenly to place on top.

3. Place the apples in a baking dish and pour 3/4 cup boiling water into the dish. Let the apples sit in the hot water for 2-3- minutes before placing in the oven. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until golden and softened. Once done remove from the oven and serve with ice cream.
